Governor Sununu Proves Republicans Can Defy Trump

The Story:

Governor Chris Sununu (R-NH) has shown no interest in fealty to former President Donald Trump. As it has for many other Republicans, this apathy has drawn the wrath of Trump and those close to him. One member of Trump’s inner circle, Corey Lewandowski, has quite openly been looking for a pro-Trump New Hampshire Republican willing to challenge Sununu in the Republican primary, ideally to deprive Sununu of a fourth term. The only bites Lewandowski has gotten on that bait are regarded as unserious. Sununu will likely coast to wins both in the primary and in the general election and will get his fourth term.

Background:

Chris Sununu is the son of John H. Sununu and the brother of John E. Sununu. His father was Governor of New Hampshire from 1983 to 1989 and then became White House Chief of Staff under George H.W. Bush. John E. Sununu served in the House of Representatives for three terms and in the U.S. Senate for one.

The Thing to Know:

Dave Carney, a Republican Party strategist who works out of New Hampshire, said that much as the Trump camp dislikes it, “I just don’t see there are any serious folks … willing to run what would be a fruitless effort,” against Chris Sununu.
