Cesar Sayoc colleague said mail bomb suspect recently started talking ‘non-stop’ politics

USA TODAY WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Scott Meigs has worked alongside Cesar Sayoc for two decades at strip clubs all over South Florida and said his colleague had never uttered a word about politics. “He started talking politics non-stop,” said Meigs, a 52-year-old West Palm Beach resident, as he worked his dee-jay shift Friday night at the Ultra Gentlemen’s Club. “He really was a very nice guy and would do anything for you,” said Meigs, who said this week Sayoc agreed to cover one of his shifts at the club. “He would always park in the back of the club and to tell you the truth, I thought it looked like an ice cream truck,” she said. She said he worked at the club as a dee-jay and floor host, four nights a week. Imon Karim, who owns a security camera in Palm Beach County, was trying to make a sale last month when he struck up a conversation with Sayoc at the Ultra Gentlemen’s Club. The conversation then turned to politics when Karim – trying to score a sale – told Sayoc that he also provided security cameras at political events. And he said Sayoc kept it up until this week before his arrest. In recalling one of his last conversations with Sayoc, Karim said he did appear more worked up about Democrats and the need to elect Republicans. “Now, I can’t believe the man sending me these anti-Democratic text messages for the last month turns out to be man arrested for sending pipe bombs to all these Democrats,” he said.

White House Staff Nervously Checking Whether Trump Retweeted Anything by Bombing Suspect

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Moments after law enforcement apprehended the pipe-bombing suspect, Cesar Sayoc, in Florida, White House staffers scrambled to make sure that Donald J. Trump had never retweeted anything from Sayoc’s demented Twitter feed. The alarm bells went off at the White House after the chief of staff, John Kelly, reviewed Sayoc’s feed, which is riddled with right-wing conspiracy theories and paranoid attacks on George Soros, and thought that some of the tweets “looked kind of familiar,” an aide to Kelly confirmed. After spotting the similarities, Kelly enlisted Kellyanne Conway, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Jared Kushner to comb through Trump’s Twitter feed and ascertain whether he had in fact retweeted any of the bombing suspect’s unhinged ravings. As of late Friday afternoon, the team of staffers had not yet identified any retweets of the alleged pipe bomber by Trump, but cautioned that their work was “far from over,” a White House source said. “We still have to go through Don, Jr., and Eric’s feeds and make sure they didn’t retweet any of Sayoc’s stuff,” the source said. “We’re all holding our breath right now.”

Q&A: what is Donald Trump accused of and what happens now?

His former lawyer Michael Cohen accused the president of joining in what prosecutors might see as a conspiracy to violate elections laws, and his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort was convicted of eight federal felonies and appears headed for prison. As Cohen’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, said in a statement afterwards: “If those payments were a crime for Michael Cohen, then why wouldn’t they be a crime for Donald Trump?” Will Trump face some kind of criminal charge? Or, on the other hand, will that crucial sliver of potentially wavering Trump supporters agree with the president that it’s all a “witch-hunt”? “Anyone who thinks Trump will face a criminal trial while president is kidding themselves.” So if Trump maintains his consistent approval rating, he’s all good? In the eyes of the public, he may have been inoculated against certain accusations, such as Cohen’s statement that he was in on the hush agreements, by the fact that his spokesman Rudy Giuliani blurted out the same thing months ago on television, and that Cohen had already released audio tapes appearing to document Trump’s involvement. The charging documents against Cohen showed how the special counsel has gained detailed knowledge of the inner workings of the Trump Organization – in the case of the hush payments, at least. Again, Trump appears to know as little as the public about what is coming next out of the justice department. As national security specialist and historian Tim Weiner told the Guardian last week: “The president of the United States is terrified.” Michael Cohen has information on 'conspiracy by Russians', says lawyer Read more What about Russia? Many of the Russians’ tactics came to public light for the first time owing to Mueller. Only Mueller and his team know what’s coming next.

Suspect in Austin shooting spree had ties to Texas politics

Austin police believe a 29-year-old man is behind a Monday homicide and a string of shootings that occurred on Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday, the Austin Police Department named Charles Curry as the suspect in four separate shootings that injured two victims a day earlier. Police said he is also the suspect behind the shooting death of Christian Meroney, 32. Police said Curry allegedly drove around in his car and shot at victims with a handgun. Police said the motive for both the shootings and homicide are unknown. A quick look at Curry's Linkedin profile shows that he claimed to work for Speaker of the House Joe Straus and Representative Lyle Larson. The profile describes him as having a "financial background with a current focus in politics." He also claimed to work as a policy analyst for the Texas Senate. The president for the consulting firm that represented Speaker Straus, and who Curry worked for, told KXAN that the homicide suspect "exaggerated his LinkedIn profile and was never a campaign coordinator for his firm." Curry is being held at the Travis County Jail with charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
