President Trump Admits He Has ‘No Proof’ Terrorists Are in the Migrant Caravan

President Donald Trump conceded there’s no evidence for his claim that Middle Eastern terrorists are among thousands of migrants traveling from Honduras toward the U.S. border, but blamed Venezuela and unidentified “leftists” for encouraging the so-called caravan. He’s expressed outrage about the group of several thousand migrants, which is slowly making its way north from Mexico’s border with Guatemala, and said in a tweet on Monday that the caravan included “unknown Middle Easterners.” Questioned repeatedly about the claim on Tuesday, Trump conceded that “there’s no proof of anything” but that terrorists “could very well be” among the group. In a conference call with reporters to discuss new numbers on illegal border crossings, two senior administration officials could not provide evidence for the president’s claim that terrorists are embedded with the migrants. Vice President Mike Pence earlier in the day asserted that “it’s inconceivable that there are not people of Middle Eastern descent in a crowd of more than 7,000 people advancing toward our border.” Pence also said in remarks at a Washington Post event that “in the last fiscal year, we apprehended more than 10 terrorists or suspected terrorists per day at our southern border.” The administration officials said Pence spoke inaccurately. Tyler Houlton, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, later tweeted a message that the caravan includes people “who are gang members or have significant criminal histories.” He said in another tweet “citizens of countries outside Central America, including countries in the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, and elsewhere are currently traveling through Mexico toward the U.S.” He didn’t say whether any of them were in the caravan. “Leftist groups,” Pence said. Border Apprehensions Up Earlier on Tuesday, Customs and Border Patrol announced that apprehensions of people illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border rose 30 percent in the last fiscal year. U.S. officials apprehended 396,579 people between ports of entry on the southwest border between October 2017 and the end of September, CBP reported. The data indicating a rise in illegal migration was released as Trump has ratcheted up his rhetoric against immigrants before the midterms. More families are illegally crossing together, the border patrol reported.

‘Assault on our country’: Trump sows racial division as midterms approach

With two weeks left before the midterm elections, Trump is amplifying a dark vision of what the country could look like if Democrats gain control in Congress. At campaign rallies, on Twitter and in his public commentary, he has issued urgent – if groundless – warnings about terrorists at the border, a socialist takeover and rampant crime. The so-called caravan has swelled to more than 7,000 Central Americans, many of whom have said they are fleeing poverty and violence in their native countries and dream of a better life in Mexico or the US. Yet without citing evidence, Trump has claimed the caravan is embedded with criminals, gang members and “unknown Middle Easterners”, an apparent attempt to exploit fear of terrorism and immigration. Are Donald Trump's claims about the caravan of 7,000 migrants accurate? Read more “That is an assault on our country and in that caravan you have some very bad people and we can’t let that happen to our country,” Trump said at a rally in Houston on Monday night. And then declared himself a “nationalist”, a term he typically avoids using directly about himself at such events. But in a sign that he wants to escalate the rhetoric, he shouted “use that word” to the cheering crowd. “Both in the Republican primaries and in the general election, white voters’ attitudes about African Americans, Muslims and immigration were more closely associated with how they voted than were any strictly economic concerns”. In an ad by the same name, Hunter accuses Campa-Najjar of trying to “infiltrate” the US government and accuses him of being supported by the Egyptian Islamist organization the Muslim Brotherhood.

Colin Allred is a son of his Dallas district. Can he unseat the man...

Now Allred says he wants to look out for the district by becoming its public servant. Making matters tricky was that on the outside, he looked like a black kid, but the only family he ever knew was white. Allred's father, a black man who lived in Dallas, was not in his life. "It's a North Texas story," he said. Help from the village Allred was a smart kid who loved to read. "He played like every game was his last. Allred earned a football scholarship to Baylor, where he played linebacker. In his fifth season, he suffered an injury during a game against the Dallas Cowboys, with his mother, aunt and uncle in the AT&T Stadium stands. "I thought the community that I grew up in and that allowed me to do all these things wasn't getting the representation it deserved." Derek Smith, who worked at the YMCA that Allred frequented as a kid, said he would be a good congressman.

On the Georgia Trail: Pence’s plans, hurricane politics, ‘we kick them’

He’s not yet sidelined the makeup date despite another monster storm headed for Georgia. Pence still plans to arrive at a Delta Air Lines facility Thursday afternoon and then follow it up with a high-dollar Georgia GOP fundraiser in Buckhead. Donors were sent an email late Wednesday asking them to “please monitor your inbox” in case of a late change. Democrats also plan to roll out the welcome mat with a rally outside of the Grand Hyatt Buckhead featuring a range of supporters of Democrat Stacey Abrams. Among the speakers are Jeff Graham of Georgia Equality and Nse Ufot of the New Georgia Project. The trip was moved to Thursday after an earlier visit was scrapped in September as Hurricane Florence menaced Georgia. *** Meanwhile, the two candidates haven’t yet announced any change of plans with the impending storm’s approach. In a statement, Abrams campaign manager Lauren Groh Wargo said the campaign is “keeping a close eye on Hurricane Michael and moving any staff in affected areas to safe territory.” *** Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder visited Georgia over the weekend to stump for Stacey Abrams and other Democrats, but his comments advocating a more aggressive approach to the midterms are just now surfacing online. At a rally with volunteers in front of Abrams campaign signs, he talked about how Democrats should start to model themselves after Republicans. When they go low, we kick them.

Ivanka Trump Tweets She Won’t Replace Nikki Haley as the UN Ambassador

President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka said she won’t take Nikki Haley’s place as ambassador to the United Nations. “I know that the President will nominate a formidable replacement for Ambassador Haley,” Ivanka Trump said in a tweet Tuesday. “That replacement will not be me.” Ivanka Trump @IvankaTrump It is an honor to serve in the White House alongside so many great colleagues and I know that the President will nominate a formidable replacement for Ambassador Haley. That replacement will not be me. The president said earlier in the day that his daughter would be an “incredible” ambassador to the UN, but “I’d be accused of nepotism.” She and her husband, Jared Kushner, are currently senior advisers to the president on the White House staff. “I’m not sure there’s anybody more competent,” the president added. Haley will leave her job as ambassador by the end of the year, the president said earlier in an announcement that surprised many in the White House including Chief of Staff John Kelly and Vice President Mike Pence. The president said he is considering Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s Dina Powell as a potential replacement along with “others.” Another potential Haley successor is the U.S. ambassador to Germany, Ric Grenell, who quickly won Twitter endorsements from conservative broadcaster Hugh Hewitt and several Trump associates. Ivanka Trump earlier tweeted praise for Haley.
