Opinion | Charles Burdick: Mudslinging in politics is out of control

There are others, most of the time running for that same office. When I say bad-mouthing I mean mudslinging. It is beyond my imagination that candidates think they must belittle their opponent and point out all the sinful and unpatriotic actions of the other. We do not care to hear about their opponent’s bad habits and telling us why we shouldn’t vote for the other, but instead to hear why we should vote for him or her. To me, mudslinging is showing a sign of weakness. I’m reasonably certain that it is much greater now than it ever was. What a shame that we can’t turn on our radio or TV and hear a straightforward talk on ideas of the candidates as to what they stand for and will try to accomplish if elected with no downgrading of the opponent. We now have a president that is eat up with narcissism, an excessive admiration of himself, and doesn’t know that our country never stopped being great. Remember, he campaigned on, “Make America Great Again.” He is also a first-class mudslinger. When the importance of running down your opponent has become more important than your agenda, mudslinging in politics is out of control.
