Jim Jordan Spends Hearing Demanding Michael Cohen Accept Blame For Covering Up Sexual Abuse...

WASHINGTON—Repeatedly attacking the credibility of President Trump’s former lawyer and asking why the House Oversight Committee should believe anything he says, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) spent the bulk of his allotted time during Michael Cohen’s hearing Thursday demanding that he accept blame for covering up the alleged sexual abuse of wrestlers at Ohio State University. “I am not sure how you expect us to just sit here and trust that you’re actually going to tell the truth about your involvement with the president when you’ve said absolutely nothing about these scandalous abuse allegations—what are you hiding?” said Jordan, interrupting another congressperson’s questioning to call attention to the fact that paperwork Cohen submitted ahead of the hearing contained nothing about knowing that hundreds of OSU wrestlers were abused by a team doctor, including during the period from 1986 to 1994 when Jordan served as an assistant coach. “Who are you to accuse the president of crimes given your shady past and connections to Ohio State? You’re obviously only doing this to distance yourself from this disgraceful cover-up, and the fact that you won’t admit to your role in it completely invalidates any shred of decency you might have. Frankly, sir, you are a disgrace to the Buckeyes.” An irate Jordan also informed Cohen in front of the committee that it was particularly galling to hear that someone would turn around and betray those who had trusted him.

Democrats Wrestle With Politics In Diversity Discussion

Typically, diversity for the Democratic Party has meant re-nominating Denise Nappier, who is African American, to run for state treasurer. John Blankley is white. There is talk that some Democrats are looking to avoid acrimony and possibly win back the support of the black community by making sure Wooden, a former Hartford city council president, walks away with the endorsement without a primary. “Democratic voters should be allowed to judge the merits of the candidates for themselves,” Bhargava said. “From the beginning our simple ask was that delegates and voters choose who is best for the state treasurer office,” Arulampalam said Thursday. He said their message has resonated with a lot of people and “I hope the delegates will choose the person they want to see serve in the treasurer’s office.” Wooden’s campaign said the reason they’re picking up delegate support is his track record. ”Shawn Wooden is the right pick for state treasurer because of his diverse investment experience, progressive values, and vision for the future,” Brett Broesder, a spokesperson for the Wooden campaign said. Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin has also endorsed Wooden, even though the Hartford delegates seem to be split between Arulampalam and Wooden. New Haven has 97 delegates, Bridgeport has 90, and Hartford has 78 delegates. Vincent Mauro Jr., head of New Haven’s Democratic Town Committee, said he doesn’t believe there’s any sort of coordination regarding his delegates when it comes to the race for treasurer.

From Kane to Lawler: Wrestling and politics mix just fine in Tennessee

On Tuesday night, WWE superstar Glenn Jacobs aka Kane won the Republican primary for mayor of Knox County, Tennessee by just 17 votes. Earlier this year, Jacobs, who made his debut with the WWE back in 1992, said he will quit wrestling if elected mayor of Knox County. In fact, pro wrestlers have become increasingly cozy with politics — from Jesse Ventura's successful political career in Minnesota to Glenn "Kane" Jacobs' successful run for the Knox County Republican mayoral nomination this week in East Tennessee to Jerry Lawler's two runs for mayor of Memphis. Lawler's campaign was marred by an arrest over an incident with a parking enforcement officer at Memphis International Airport. In the election, Herenton won his third term. Lawler made a second bid in a 2009 special election after Herenton, by then in his fifth term, resigned to run for Congress. Then-Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton won the special election, with Lawler finishing fifth in a crowded field. In Knox County, Jacobs — a WWE wrestler who goes by the name Kane — narrowly defeated a county commissioner and a third candidate to win the GOP nomination for county mayor Tuesday. Bob Backlund: He ran for Congress in Connecticut in 2000 as a Republican, but lost to the Democratic incumbent. In 2004, he tried again and won a county commission seat.
