‘Reputation is in Tatters – Worst in History!’ President Trump Attacks His Own FBI...

Trump, two days after his former national security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, again denied that he directed FBI Director James Comey to stop investigating Flynn. The Republican president offered a running Twitter commentary Sunday amid renewed focus on Mueller’s probe and Flynn’s decision to cooperate with the investigation as part of his plea agreement. Democrats said the developments suggested growing evidence of coordination between Trump’s circle and Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. In a series of tweets, Trump questioned the direction of the federal law enforcement agency and wrote that after Comey, whom Trump fired in May, the FBI’s reputation is “in Tatters — worst in History!” He vowed to “bring it back to greatness.” The president also retweeted a tweet that said new FBI Director Chris Wray “needs to clean house.” The president seized upon reports that a veteran FBI counterintelligence agent was removed from Mueller’s team last summer after the discovery of an exchange of text messages that were viewed as potentially anti-Trump. The agent, Peter Strzok, had also worked on the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. The person who discussed the matter with The Associated Press was not authorized to speak about it by name and spoke on condition of anonymity. Trump tweeted Sunday: “Tainted (no, very dishonest?) Trump and many of his supporters have at times sought to discredit the integrity of the investigation, in part by claiming a close relationship between Mueller and Comey and by pointing to political contributions to Democrats made by some lawyers on the team. On Saturday, Trump tweeted that he “had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. Comey has said Trump the following day brought up the Flynn investigation in private at the White House and told him he hoped he could “let this go.” Amid questions raised by the tweet, Trump associates tried to put distance Saturday evening between the president himself and the tweet.

CNN employees respond to Trump after latest attack on network

CNN and some of its staff are hitting back at President Trump after he suggested that the network and its international arm were spreading so-called "fake news" around the world. Trump's latest swipe at CNN came in a tweet Saturday evening, when he accused the network of representing the U.S. "very poorly" across the globe and claimed that the conservative Fox News is domestically "more important." The tweet drew quick responses from CNN anchor Jake Tapper and national security correspondent Jim Sciutto, who rushed to the defense of CNN International, the news networks' world news arm. "Thinking about cnni and my brave and hard-working colleagues there who cover famines and wars and politics and terrorism and everything else," Tapper tweeted. "Amazing men and women, thank you for your continued excellence." But Trump's tweet also drew a direct response from CNN itself. The network responded to the president in a tweet pointing out that it is, in fact, Trump's job to represent the U.S. abroad – not CNN's. "It's not CNN's job to represent the U.S to the world. Our job is to report the news," the network wrote from its public relations account. Another CNN employee, media reporter Oliver Darcy, also chimed in on the president's comment, noting that he followed up on the tweet with a post linking to an obscure pro-Trump website listing the president's accomplishments since taking office.

Twitter explains why they won’t delete Trump tweet threatening NK

. Twitter on Monday explained why it will not be deleting President Trump's tweet threatening North Korea, saying it did not violate the company's rules after weighing its "newsworthiness." "We hold all accounts to the same Rules, and consider a number of factors when assessing whether Tweets violate our Rules," Twitter's Policy account said in a six-part Twitter thread. Twitter said "newsworthiness" is part of the criteria it takes into account when judging whether to keep a tweet or not, saying that keeping the public informed is an integral role that the platform serves to fulfill. "Among the considerations is 'newsworthiness' and whether a Tweet is of public interest. We’ll continue to be guided by these fundamental principles," the statement continued, after some had inquired whether this threat of violence would violate Twitter's policy and be grounds for removal. The statement comes after the president threatened to end the existence of the hermit kingdom, adding a new layer of fear on top of the already heightened tensions that a conflict could ignite between the two countries. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won't be around much longer!" Trump tweeted Saturday, the latest remark in a series of hostile comments and subsequent responses that have been lobbed back and forth between the two countries.

Trump’s Tweets About London Bombing Anger British Leaders

WASHINGTON — President Trump seized on a terrorist attack in London on Friday to promote his ban on travel to the United States by Muslims and, in the process, ran afoul of Britain by claiming without evidence that the assailants had been “in the sights” of the British police. In a fusillade of early morning tweets, Mr. Trump cited the chaotic scene in a London Underground station as Exhibit A for his hard-line policies. His ban on visitors from predominantly Muslim countries, he wrote, should be “far larger, tougher and more specific” — a statement that seemed calculated to mollify his political base after a week in which Mr. Trump suddenly began playing dealmaker with Democrats on immigration. But Mr. Trump’s assertion that the assailants had been known to Scotland Yard angered Prime Minister Theresa May, who said it was not helpful for anyone to speculate while an investigation was underway. In March, the White House press secretary at the time, Sean Spicer, repeated allegations that a British intelligence agency had wiretapped Trump Tower, which British authorities dismissed as “utterly ridiculous.” Trump’s assertions were also a sign that for all the talk about a more disciplined White House under the new chief of staff, John F. Kelly — who has urged the president to have tweets vetted by his aides — Mr. Trump was still determined not to censor himself on social media and was fully capable of roiling the diplomatic waters with a single unguarded post. At 6:42 a.m., Mr. Trump tweeted that “sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard” carried out the attack, which injured at least 29 people in the blast and ensuing panic. White House officials tried to play down the contretemps, saying Mr. Trump was referring to the longstanding efforts of British law enforcement authorities to investigate would-be terrorists, not to anyone involved in Friday’s attack. “Scotland Yard has been a leader, as our F.B.I. Last month, she joined other world leaders in criticizing his response to the white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, Va. For Mr. Trump, the news of another terrorist attack also offered a moment to do some political repositioning by returning to themes that have animated him since the presidential campaign. “Apologize for untruth!” Ms. Hill has apologized, but Ms. Sanders said her comment was a “fireable offense.” Some polls have shown that the president’s political base would mostly support preserving Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, which temporarily shields 800,000 young immigrants from deportation.
