Svend Robinson expected to announce return to politics Tuesday

Former federal NDP MP Svend Robinson is expected to announce a return to politics on Tuesday. On Monday, the federal NDP media centre put out a release stating Robinson — who was an MP in Burnaby from 1979 to 2004 — would make an important announcement about his political future in front of his childhood Burnaby home. Telford said the challenge for Robinson was that the new riding included parts of North Vancouver. Whether Svend Robinson has enough support on the North Shore is not clear.” Burnaby North Seymour is currently held by Liberal Terry Beech. Telford said Robinson making an announcement on Tuesday could help Singh, because Singh is an outsider and Robertson brings “cachet to the riding and to Jagmeet Singh.” Robinson’s political career came crashing down in early 2004 when he admitted to stealing a valuable ring from an auction house a few months before the federal election. Robinson, a lawyer, attempted a comeback in the 2006 federal election when he ran for the NDP against Liberal Hedy Fry in the Vancouver Centre riding.
