TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - Voters in Hillsborough County can meet their local school board candidates in a forum Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Seminole Heights United Methodist Church sanctuary. Pinellas County residents will have a chance to learn about the new flood maps and impact to their insurance premiums at several events this week: Tuesday, Sept. 25 YMCA at Lealman Community Campus, 5175 45th St. N., St. Petersburg 6 – 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26 Countryside Recreation Center, 2640 Sabal Springs Drive, Clearwater 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 Seminole Recreation Center, 9100 113th Street N., Seminole 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. 6 – 9 p.m. There are plenty of local campaign events this week as well, but all eyes in political circles will be on Capitol Hill. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault,vwill appear before the Senate judiciary committee in a public hearing on Thursday. Kavanaugh will also answer questions. Also in the nation's capital, the federal government could shut down at the end of the week unless the president signs a short-term spending bill by the start of the new fiscal year, which is next Monday, Oct. 1. One of the main issues is the border wall. President Trump wants more money for it, and has said publicly that a shutdown could be a good way to get it. The president had previously promised during his campaign that Mexico would pay for the wall.
