[Get On Politics delivered to your inbox.] Nearly a week after Election Day, here we are again, still waiting for results in five statewide elections. Three of them are in Florida, of course, the result of a state law mandating the recount of races with tight margins. That’s not exactly how the president and Florida Republicans see it. Here’s a recap of where things stand today: • The first full, statewide vote recount in Florida history started on Saturday for races for governor, Senate and agriculture secretary. But if the machine recount comes back with a margin of .25 percentage points or less, the state will begin a manual recount. Most of the attention is focused on the Senate race, where unofficial election results show Mr. Scott leading Mr. Nelson by just .14 percentage points. A majority of voters in the state cast early ballots and vote by mail, and counting their votes can take time. The tweet also belied the fact that the fires — the Camp Fire in Northern California and the Woolsey Fire in Southern California — did not begin on forested land, but rather on what’s known as the wildland-urban interface, the edges between communities and wildland.

Just because we don't yet know for sure the outcome of some of Florida's marquee races doesn't mean we should shirk our post-election winners and losers list. Mostly winners: Winner: Ron DeSantis. Winner: Andrew Gillum. After leading Rick Scott, Donald Trump, and now (it seems) DeSantis to victory in Florida, she solidified her standing Florida's top political strategist. He did it with Rick Scott and Donald Trump too, and the Ballard Partners lobbying shop now is tighter with the (most likely) governor-elect than any other firm. Loser: Greyhound tracks. Without POTUS throwing himself into revving up the GOP base with two final-week rallies in Florida, Bill Nelson and Andrew Gillum would likely be celebrating today rather than hiring recount lawyers. Winner: Bill Galvano. The Everglades advocacy group outraged other environmental groups for endorsing Ron DeSantis for governor, but now it (most likely) will have a grateful advocate in the governor's office. BIGGEST WINNER: Election lawyers.

We are still waiting on results from another historic race in Georgia, where Stacey Abrams is fighting to become the first female black governor of any state. In one example, voter turnout in a critical swing district in Florida was 87% of what it was in 2016, when Trump won the presidency. Voter turnout in midterms is typically about two-thirds the level in presidential election years. Democrats will need to flip 21 more House seats to control the lower chamber.
