Here’s why Chris Evans was meeting with Ed Markey and other members of Congress...

The “Captain America” actor and Sudbury native is working with the Massachusetts senator and other members of Congress on A Starting Point, a new website that aims to “demystify politics” by directly showcasing both Democratic and Republican lawmakers succinctly giving their position on “dozens” of different political issues. “This should be just a one-stop shop for simple, digestible information from people who know best,” Evans says in a video released Saturday by Evans’ partners, media entrepreneur Joe Kiani and filmmaker Mark Kassen, through their media company Like Minded Entertainment. “Guess the cat’s outta the bag,” Evans tweeted Saturday morning, after CNN first reported on the video’s release. “We want you to put your best foot forward, so if you don’t like any of your answers, you can, you know, do ’em as many times as you want,” Evans said in the video. “Our goal is to create informed, responsible and empathetic citizens who are empowered to further their understanding in the world of politics,” Evans, Kiani, Kassen wrote in an earlier round of interview requests. Evans and Kassen met with more than a dozen senators and representatives on Capitol Hill in February, including Democratic presidential candidates New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and California Rep. Eric Swalwell. Republican participants included Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, and Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw. Markey’s office confirmed Monday that A Starting Point was the subject of the Massachusetts Democrat’s meeting in February with Evans, but declined to go into further detail. Evans himself has been outspokenly critical of Republican President Donald Trump and actively supported his uncle, former Rep. Mike Capuano, who served as the Democratic congressman for his Boston-area district for 20 years — until he was unseated by Rep. Ayanna Pressley in last year’s Democratic primary. This is a chance for you to talk about the issues that matter to you.” A launch date for the website has yet to be announced.

Trump Loves Using Kids as Political Props: State of the Union Edition

Based on early reports, Trump will call for bipartisan “unity” hours after attacking Chuck Schumer on Twitter, and probably hours before attacking Stacey Abrams, Bernie Sanders, the New England Patriots, and whoever else he believes has grievously wronged him, in the spirit of a Real Housewife of Orange County several liters of Chardonnay deep. No, this child was not taken from his parents at the border thanks to the administration‘s family-separation policy. Nor is he a refugee, an undocumented immigrant, Latino, Black, Jewish, L.G.B.T.Q., or any other individual victimized on a daily basis thanks to this administration. Instead: An 11-year-old boy who says he’s been bullied because of his last name—Trump—will be one of President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump’s guests at the State of the Union on Tuesday, the White House announced. Inviting him to sit in the SOTU audience and highlighting his plight is the height of rich, though, considering: 1) the president would be unlikely to show such sympathy toward any bullied individual who didn’t share his last name; 2) all of the kids Trump’s policies have hurt just as badly, if not worse; and 3) he is literally known for spending valuable “Executive Time” coming up with nicknames to mock his enemies: On the other hand, it’s not entirely surprising the administration would think this was a good idea, and not just because the cognitive dissonance is strong with this group. Using children as political props has been their thing for some time now. Before Joshua, there was the letter from then-10-year-old Frank, whose request to mow the White House lawn was read aloud by Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and bizarrely used to back Trump’s calls to restrict legal immigration. Before that, there was Dylan Harbin, a.k.a. To be fair, you can understand why the White House wouldn’t want to discuss the Treasury announcing the U.S. will borrow $1 trillion for a second year in a row to finance the deficit, given that part of the reason is the tax cuts corporations just had to have, in addition to government spending increases. Even Bloomberg is panning Amazon’s New York tax breaks “You read in the paper Amazon opened one of their new two headquarters, or are in the process of doing it, very close to here.

After his police-reform Initiative 940 passes, Seahawks Doug Baldwin says he may enter politics

After all, the Seahawks’ Pro Bowl wide receiver lobbied the state capitol and elsewhere for months trying to get passed proposed reforms on the ways the police use deadly force in our state. Of course I have thoughts on it,” Baldwin said Wednesday, the day after Election Day. With Baldwin, it never is. 01:41 Game Theory: Week 10 win probabilities, score predictions NFL New Orleans Saints | 01:41 03:20 GMFB's power rankings going into Week 10 NFL Los Angeles Chargers | 03:20 01:36 Players that you should take a risk for in Week 10 | NFL Fantasy Live NFL Seattle Seahawks | 01:36 02:10 Projected points for newly traded wide receivers | NFL Fantasy Live NFL Dallas Cowboys | 02:10 02:30 Steve Wyche reports on how Rams are dealing with Thousand Oaks shooting NFL Los Angeles Rams | 02:30 02:24 Game Theory: Week 10 playoff percentages NFL New England Patriots | 02:24 04:14 'GMFB' reacts to Jason Kelce's Cowboys comment He’s started a players’ fund on his team to affect change in our society. I think that, personally, just being involved in a more hands-on way, level, in terms of laws and legislation that impact our everyday lives, really getting invested in what it means to vote, and use your voice and platform to effectuate change in a positive way, it’s hard to go back. Especially when you take so much time to research and to be empathic to opposite viewpoints and see there are opportunities to bring people together, to build bridges and actually have a conversation about things that impact our everyday lives, and to change them for the better. So I asked Baldwin what I’d been meaning to for months: Since he makes more sense than a lot (most) politicians do about issues that affect our society, has the 30-year-old wide receiver given thought to running for public office after his playing days are over? So, the future children that are, hopefully, soon on the way, being the best father that I can for them. “Then, if the time comes, and I have time to pursue other interests, then I will.” Baldwin said that time will also allow him to do what he hasn’t been able to since the Seahawks signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2011, then turned him into a $46 million receiver among the best in the NFL.
