Harris told the Advertiser before the runoff that he sees Burkette as a mentor and believes that the now-senators grassroots background has informed his bid to fill the council seat. Willie Knight, an outspoken west Montgomery resident, said both candidates would make a good council member, in his opinion.
“Poor people don’t even see their representatives until election time,” Knight said.
