Trump and Stand Your Ground: The week in Florida politics

Republican U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis is putting all his chips on President Donald Trump in the race for governor. Not only did Trump have a campaign rally with DeSantis this week, but DeSantis released a television ad reinforcing the president's endorsement of his campaign over that of Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam. The congressman is shown holding a Trump campaign sign and pointing at each word as he tells his daughter, "Make America Great Again." Casey says, "People say Ron's all Trump, but he is so much more." The next seen shows Ron DeSantis standing over a crib and watching his son in a "Make America Great Again" onesie. The ad that is being paid by Putnam's political committee contends that "D.C. DeSantis" is "part of the Washington swamp." Florida's "stand your ground" law is once again becoming a political issue, with Democratic candidate for governor Andrew Gillum saying the Republican Gov. "What the stand your ground law does is it took castle doctrine out into the streets," said Gillum. Gillum, who is black, said the law is disproportionately applied in a way that keeps white people from being charged for killing minorities. "At first, these fake calls were frustrating.

Trump lashes out at Koch brothers after their political network slams White House

President Trump on Tuesday lashed out at the Koch brothers, saying their conservative political network had "become a total joke in real Republican circles" and was "highly overrated” — deepening the divide between the GOP's donor class and its increasingly populist base at a crucial time, three months before the midterm election. Charles Koch, who now runs the family’s political network after the retirement of his brother David, who is ill, was somewhat more restrained, acknowledging that political polarization affected Washington and the country long before Trump entered the fray. "We've had divisiveness long before Trump became president and we'll have it long after he's no longer president," he told reporters Sunday. "I never sought their support because I don't need their money or bad ideas." Trump added that the Kochs "love" some of his policies, including tax cuts and conservative picks for federal courts. Although they have benefited from the administration's tax cuts and deregulation efforts, the Kochs oppose Trump's immigration and trade policies, especially tariffs. “If you’re running the country, you’re not really interested in a couple of billionaires -- whether it’s the Steyers on the left or Kochs on the right -- telling you, ‘We don’t really think you know what you’re doing,’” said the former administration official. “The interesting question is the extent to which the business community is going to start to be more actively opposed to Trump policies and this move by Charles Koch and his network could be a triggering mechanism,” said Fred Wertheimer, president of a left-leaning nonprofit group called Democracy 21, which has focused on Trump’s ethics and the role of big money in politics. Charles Koch and his network have the personal fortunes to push back against Trump, especially on trade and immigration, in a way that Republican lawmakers have so far been unwilling to do, Wertheimer said. While other business interests have pushed back against Trump’s trade policies, they have not done so as aggressively as Koch, he added.

Making America Good Again

What a wonderful thought. Revival is what we need to make Americans good again and good, Godly, righteous Americans will make America great again. The preacher who is credited with the start of the great azusa street revivals is said to have started each service praying with his head stuck inside a bucket so as to both separate himself from the noise of the crowd but also to humble himself and hear God's voice before he began to speak. Recognizing our own sin and preaching repentance and holiness is the only way to right America's sinking ship. One of the most misused Scriptures by the progressive, leftist heretics is in Matthew Chapter 7: “Judge not, that you be not judged. Scripture is our guide as to what is and is not sin and the laws of our nation as enumerated by our Founders used those scriptures and others writings to establish a Judicial System based on Natural Law. "Don't judge me" is an improper division of the Word of Truth and Natural Law. Scripture is clear in regard to "Knowing people by their fruits," --"Marking those that cause division,"-- "Rightly dividing truth," and being "Righteous judges of matters both within and without the church." Recently he said: "Before we can make America great again, we have to make America good again." Wouldn't it be wonderful to see another great awakening in America?
