‘Regional parties thriving due to dynastic politics’

Justifying the JD(S)’s decision to field three of family members in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Kumaraswamy said his party was not different from other parties, including national parties. Not just in regional parties — dynasty politics is prevalent in the Congress and the BJP too. In my opinion, regional parties are thriving only because of dynasty politics. The Samajwadi Party is also thriving because of dynasty politics. The CM said the Gowda family should not be held responsible for fielding family members, as it merely yielded to its workers’ demands. Kumaraswamy said that BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa too was guilty of dynasty politics. Two or three more family members from Yeddyurappa’s family may enter politics in future. He said that he was “forced” to field his son Nikhil from Mandya. “During the Mandya bypolls itself, all eight MLAs of Mandya had demanded that Nikhil should be fielded. Nikhil was fielded only because the MLAs insisted that he be the candidate.

Honesty over dynasty, vikas over vote-bank politics: PM Modi presents govt’s report card, slams...

PM Modi urged people to vote wisely ahead of Lok Sabha 2019 polls He listed out the contributions of the NDA government since 2014 In his blog, Narendra Modi slammed the dynasty politics in Congress party "Development over decay, security over stagnation, opportunities over obstacles, vikas over vote-bank politics, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in his latest blog on Wednesday. Hinting that governance improved in India after his government came to power, PM Modi wrote: "Indians were tired of our beloved nation being in the Fragile Five, where corruption, cronyism, and nepotism made headlines instead of anything positive." 'India first' instead of 'family first' Targeting the Congress party, PM Modi said the government has been working for "India first" instead of "family first". He also urged people to ask why the Rajya Sabha was not working as productively as the Lok Sabha, hinting at opposition ruckus. Freedom of speech, courts Expressing his views on freedom of speech, PM Modi said dynastic parties have "never been comfortable" with a free and vibrant press. The recent UPA years saw the bringing of a law that could land you in prison for posting anything offensive, he said. "Every middleman is linked to one family," Modi added. When our air warriors strike at terrorists, Congress questions that too." Last but not least, the prime minister urged people to "think wisely" and asked them to compare the past with the present. "Think wisely: As you go to vote- remember the past and how one family's desire for power cost the nation so greatly.

BJP dragging Army into politics for electoral gains: Akhilesh Yadav

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of dragging Army into politics for electoral gains. He said that his party never resorted to any kind of marketing using the Army despite the fact that he himself studied in a military school. Attacking the BJP further, Akhilesh Yadav said that the saffron party is known for spreading hatred and can do anything for electoral gains now that Lok Sabha election is around. "BJP can do anything. BJP can go to any level for votes. They have not even spared cows and Ganga." The instructions came after the photograph of a hoarding displaying pictures of Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Abhinandan Varthaman as well as senior BJP leaders was circulated on social media and came to the EC's notice. However, it was not known where the hoarding had been put up. Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Sunday said that the BJP is walking down a dangerous path by "using the military" to conceal its own "failures". He asserted that the EC's circular preventing the use of armed forces in election campaign was much needed.

‘Make parties give 50% tickets to women’ demands political collective in B’luru

Political parties often say they aren't able to find women candidates, but activists say it's an "insult" to scores of women party workers who support them. Scores of people from all walks of life gathered in Bengaluru’s Freedom Park on Thursday, demanding that the Election Commission make political parties give 50% of their tickets to women in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This was organised by non-partisan political collective Shakti, which was formed to enable more women to join politics. Tara Krishnaswamy, the co-convener of Shakti, said, “Our parliament has a dismal 11% of women, and [almost] 90% are men. These men are sitting and passing laws on what should be the tax on sanitary napkins etc. But the typical question that comes up is -- you know, we are not able to find women candidates. But suddenly when it comes to giving tickets they don’t find any women at all? The event also emboldened people who wish to get into politics, but are afraid to do so. 20-year-old Shalom Gauri, who will be voting for the first time in the upcoming election, says that an event like this gives her the confidence to speak. “I’ve always been interested in politics, and Shakti has given me the confidence to speak about it openly because it was always a bit scary before.

Govt Keen on Playing Politics Over Jawans’ Dead Bodies in Elections, Alleges Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday alleged that though the Modi government had intelligence inputs about the Pulwama attack, it did not take any step as it was more keen on "playing politics over the dead bodies of jawans". Banerjee, while addressing the Trinamool Congress's extended core committee meeting here, vowed to oust the "dictatorial Narendra Modi government" from power in the upcoming general election. She claimed that her party Trinamool Congress(TMC) will win all the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in the polls. "The central government was aware that such an attack can take place, there were intelligence inputs. The government allowed them to die so that they can do politics over the dead body of jawans in the elections," Banerjee said. They want to create a "war hysteria" ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the TMC president alleged. The central government is functioning in a peculiar way and union ministers are not aware of important decisions, Banerjee claimed. "This government is being run by two brothers (Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah), who have blood of innocents on their hands," she said. "Our party workers and cadre should be cautious as efforts are on to tamper EVMs (electronic voting machines) during the Lok Sabha polls. On February 14, 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed in Jammu and Kashmir after a Jaish-e-Mohammad militant rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into their bus in Pulwama district.
