What We Learned from Bannon’s “60 Minutes” Interview

What is most significant about the interview is not so much what Bannon said, but what was behind what he said; what he didn’t say; and how Charlie Rose utterly embarrassed himself and demonstrated (again) that the media cannot be trusted. All Trump has to do, Bannon said, is do what Trump said he would do, and re-election is assured. Moreover, Bannon astutely says that it is also the Democratic Establishment that stands in the way of that party moving forward. Only by pressuring China on the economic front does the North Korean problem go away because North Korea is “a client state of China.” Bannon shows a far more nuanced understanding of geopolitics than Leftists who are still screaming the same thing they screamed 35 years ago when Reagan was President -- “he’s going to start a nuclear war because he’s crazy!” Now, want an understanding of how the story is never the story? He knew Trump voters and fence-sitters didn’t care, that what they cared about was economic prosperity. First, he tried to frame Trump as a racist for not condemning the tiny group of basement dwellers who showed up in Charlottesville, and then by screaming “David Duke! Rose gave Bannon the perfect opportunity to (again) openly condemn the neo-Nazis that were in Charlottesville (and thereby acquit himself), but remind viewers that Trump has repeatedly disavowed Duke. Trump uses Twitter to dis-intermediate his message from the media. Rose still didn’t get it, crowing “but the things he says!” What does Trump say? However, the FBI’s fundamental role as an institution is to investigate.
