Alastair Campbell’s daughter foreswears politics in Fringe gig

The 25-year-old performer, filmmaker and activist will discuss how her Westminster upbringing left her determined to steer clear of mainstream politics by the time she was a teenager. Campbell has already made her name as co-founder of the feminist activist group The Pink Protest, which is aimed at helping to build “a global movement of young people who want to change the world”. “As someone who has always had things I want to talk about in the world, such as feminism and politics, you can just go up and do it. People want to laugh about it, and find solace and community in how frustrated we all are.” Campbell hopes to raise laughs with material looking at why her generation have become “disengaged” from party politics, how Brexit is a “symptom” of the system’s failure, and the targeting of female politicians for abuse by online opponents. “It’s such a hard occupation for really not much reward and it’s really difficult – a lot more than you’d think –to get things done. “I don’t think the only way to make change happen is to become a politician. The abuse they’re put through is nothing like the abuse male politicians get.” The Pink Protest has launched successful campaigns on period poverty and female genital mutilation, and made videos for campaigns helping refugees and young women with mental health problems. Campbell added: “What I’ve learned through all the work I’ve done with the Pink Protest, my own activist collective, is that our generation really knows how to use the internet and garner momentum around a particular cause or idea online, and then move it into mainstream politics. “There is so much happening in terms of the relationship between young people and politics. It feels like the right time to do this show.”

Trump insists daughter Ivanka’s private email use for work was ‘very innocent’

Donald Trump has doubled down on his claim that his daughter Ivanka’s use of private email in her government role was “very innocent”. Ivanka's emails: sins of the daughter threaten to hit Trump where it hurts Read more The Washington Post reported on Monday that Ivanka Trump sent “hundreds” of emails from her personal account to cabinet officials and White House aides, as well as to personal assistants. As many as 100 such mails pertained to government business, the paper said. Scores more related to scheduling. Play Video 1:02 While the New York Times reported in September 2017 that at least six White House staffers including Ivanka had used private email accounts, the Post said its reporters were the first to reveal the extent of such use. Trump said Ivanka’s private email use had been “very innocent”, over a “short period of time, very early on”. The first figure mentioned by the president was a reference to the number of Clinton emails known to have been deleted, some of which were personal messages later recovered by the FBI. “There was no anything, just innocent emails,” he continued, adding: “There were no classified emails. It’s another fake news story.” “And she did transition out. A spokesman for Ivanka’s private lawyer said in a statement “she did not create a private server in her house or office, there was never classified information transmitted, the account was never transferred or housed at Trump Organization, no emails were ever deleted and the emails have been retained in the official account in conformity with records preservation laws and rules”.

Chelsea Clinton for President? Bill and Hillary’s Daughter Changes Tune on Entering Politics

This is a modal window. No compatible source was found for this media. Chelsea Clinton has opened the door to a future career in politics. “At the federal level, as much as I abhor so much of what President Trump is doing, I have a great amount of gratitude for what my congresswoman and my senators are doing to try to stop him at every point,” Clinton said, according to The Guardian. “But if that were to change, if my city councillor were to retire, if my congresswoman were to retire, my senators, and I thought that I could make a positive impact, then I think I would really have to ask my answer to that question. It is scheduled for release on October 2. Clinton told Entertainment Weekly in May that the book's inspiration came from people asking whether she would write something for a young audience. “I’ve always said that you’re never too young to make a difference, and I hope this book will show young readers that it’s true.” At the festival on Monday, Clinton said there needed to be “more stories centered on women and told by women about women who have persisted. Still today the majority of children’s content, whether in picture books or cartoons, is centered on boys. This means most girls are defined by their relationship to the male characters—someone’s sister or friend.

Prime Minister Theresa May is pushing to declare war on Syria after announcing her favourite Bible passage is ‘Thou shall not kill unless it might provide a boost in the polls and help secure a trade agreement’ early this morning. The vicar’s daughter claims to have access to a special edition of ‘The Bible’ which offers her guidance in times of trouble. ‘Being borne of the cloth, I was handed a very special version of “The Bible”. It offers a selection of handy get-out clauses when its teachings are inconvenient to you,’ said Mrs May. As well as justify mass-murder, Theresa May’s Bible also allows for the starving of the poor as long as it helps to create tax-cuts for corporations and the wealthy. ‘It really is a very useful book. I’ve handed out copies to all of my Conservative colleagues,’ she told us. Britain now looks likely to venture into Syria alongside America, with a lucrative trade agreement potentially at stake, making the slaughter all worthwhile.

Roy Moore endorses candidate who wants daughters to be ‘traditional homemakers’

Former Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore on Monday endorsed a GOP Missouri Senate candidate who has said he wants his future daughters "to become traditional homemakers and family wives.” "I want to take this opportunity to recommend for your consideration my friend, Courtland Sykes, a man of vision and principle who will make a real difference in the United States Senate," Moore said in his endorsement. "Courtland is a man of impeccable character, courage, and Christian faith. We need men like Courtland Sykes in the Senate of the United States, a leader who will not only say what is right, but also a leader who will do what is right!" He faced criticism in January after posting a statement to Facebook in which he railed against "manophobic hell-bent feminist she devils" and said his fiancee is expected to have dinner prepared for him every night. "Chanel knows that my obedience comes with a small price that she loves to pay anyway: I want to come home to a home-cooked dinner at six every night, one that she fixes," Sykes said. "And one that I expect one day to have my daughters learn to fix after they become traditional homemakers and family wives." Moore lost his Alabama Senate bid to Sen. Doug Jones (D) in December despite receiving President Trump's endorsement. A slew of sexual misconduct allegations surfaced against Moore during the campaign. Moore has denied the claims, some which alleged that he had initiated sexual encounters with teenage girls while he was in his 30s. Trump has yet to endorse any of McCaskill's challengers, but he has publicly targeted the incumbent senator's reelection bid.
