‘Does Only BJP Own Cows?’ AAP, Congress Make Foray Into Bovine Politics as Elections...

Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have seen multiple instances of violence and unrest that have led to deaths of innocent cattle traders and even policemen. During its rule, BJP has been attacked by opposition parties over cow politics, but of late the saffron party has not been the only political entity milking the cow for its benefit. Earlier this week, the newly formed Congress government in Rajasthan announced that it would honour people who adopt stray cows, on Independence Day and Republic Day. Farmers in the state complain of stray groups of cattle ruining their crop. People can visit the cows and take care of them once a week or once in a month,” Meena told News18.com. Ten days after saying “we don’t play politics in the name of the cow,” AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal visited cow shelters in Haryana earlier this week and said the AAP government was taking better care of stray cows in Delhi than the BJP government in Haryana. “BJP is betraying cows, people and even Ganga, ”Jaihind told News18.com. The AAP Leader said that the Delhi government spends Rs 40 per day on every cow for welfare, while the Haryana government spends only 40 Paise. According to Jaihind, Kejriwal attended goshala programs in Haryana upon invitation. The Delhi Chief Minister was invited attend as the Delhi government had done good work for cow shelters in Delhi.

Travel vlogger Nuseir Yassin steers clear of politics on Hong Kong trip, with videos...

Having just spent two days in Hong Kong, popular travel video blogger Nuseir Yassin has already felt discontent among locals and wants to cheer the city up with videos showcasing its unique characteristics. “The frustration with the government, the frustration with just life here is pretty high,” he said, giving examples of high rent, the “China situation” and also the humid weather. On Tuesday, he travelled across the city to get footage of damaged buildings and fallen trees for a new video on Hong Kong’s recovery from Typhoon Mangkhut, the most powerful storm Hong Kong has seen since records began in 1946. “In Hong Kong, I think, one of the cool things is how it doesn’t feel there was a crazy typhoon a week ago, it just doesn’t feel like it,” he said. Yassin will also produce another video on expensive rent in the city and has published a clip on the tradition of villain hitting, or da siu yan in Cantonese, in which old ladies curse people upon request. “The politics of Hong Kong is not worth the headache,” he said. “Every time you engage in a political debate, there is a guaranteed headache from the comment section, from the reaction from everything.” He said he would like to shed light on the unique good things in Hong Kong to make people feel more proud of their town. His fans who met him on Tuesday afternoon at Hong Kong Park appreciated his efforts, saying Yassin always offered new perspectives on the world. Local university student Gloria Liu has watched his videos for about two years. He can tell us the special things which we did not know about in every city,” the 21-year-old said.

Netflix programming from the Obamas will steer clear of politics

In one of the more high-profile production deals we’ve ever seen, Netflix earlier this month inked a deal with both Barack and Michelle Obama. The deal was officially signed with Higher Ground Productions, the Obama’s production company. While programming specifics remain somewhat vague, Netflix did note that the deal would have the Obamas oversee production across a number of different genres, including television shows and documentaries. Of course, with politics being what it is, some folks on the right were a little miffed at the news and expressed some concern that the Obamas would use Netflix’s massive platform to exclusively promote partisan viewpoints and politically oriented programming. Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos, however, recently said that such concerns are unfounded. While speaking at an event in New York this week, Sarandos said that “there’s no political slant to the programming.” Sarandos, whose remarks were originally relayed via our sister-site Variety, added that the Obama’s production company will focus on entertainment programming as opposed to political programming. That said, Sarandos allowed that “it’s hard to argue that there’s not a left lean to the creative community.” But he insisted that the original content Netflix greenlights and distributes is “an aggregation of all those storytellers,” not reflecting “the politics of me” or Netflix chairman and CEO Reed Hastings. When news of Netflix’s deal with the Obamas first broke, there was some surprise that the former first couple didn’t opt to sign a deal with Apple, especially given Apple’s massive hoard of cash. It’s worth noting, though, that Sarandos has long had a personal relationship with the Obamas. In fact, Sarandos’ wife — Nicole Avant — was the United States Ambassador to the Bahamas for about two years during the Obama administration.
