Joe Biden Responds to Lucy Flores: ‘Men Should Pay Attention’

On Sunday morning, Biden issued a response to Flores’ essay. pic.twitter.com/EbCchX2npU — Bill Russo (@BillR) March 31, 2019 “In many years on the campaign trail and in public life, I have offered countless handshakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort,” the statement read. “And not once – never – did I believe I acted inappropriately. But we have arrived at an important time when women feel that they can and should relate their experiences, and men should pay attention, and I will,” the statement continued. Biden has given weak and underwhelming apologies to Hill in public, never taking personal responsibility for the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings she endured, despite his own involvement in them. Biden’s statement ended with an allusion to his history in politics and his work on women’s issues, and affirming his commitment to fight for women. “And I will continue to speak out on these vitally-important issues where there is much more progress to be made and crucial fights that must be waged and won.” On Saturday, Biden’s spokesperson Bill Russo released a statement which seemed to cast doubt on Flores’ account. Of course no one says I was alone with him because I never was alone with him and I have never claimed to have been alone with him,” she said, adding, “I have also stated many times on the record that I am not supporting any candidate right now and I am listening and evaluating all the candidates just like everyone else. PX column: Dear new governor, please pay attention to us and be nice to...

Cincinnati Enquirer Republican Mike DeWine will be sworn in as Ohio's new governor on Monday. Of course, Ohio's governor is going to pay attention to the state's third-largest city, the home of Fortune 500 giants Kroger and Procter & Gamble, right? Kasich did very little for Greater Cincinnati. Former Adams County Commissioner Stephen Caraway was a ghost to Cincinnati business and economic development leaders during his 2½ years as Kasich's Southwest Ohio liaison. More: 7 ways Mike DeWine will be different than John Kasich 2. Business leaders and Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley made the interchange a priority, and Kasich delivered most of the funding for a project that had been on the drawing board of years. It's a simple message: No other major bridge in Ohio is in worse shape. Work with Northern Kentucky and Gov. They both favored tolling a new bridge, but Northern Kentucky's state lawmakers were never on board. DeWine has said the bridge is a priority.

Strip away the politics and focus on the terrified children

Imagine the fear of a child who speaks no English and who is taken away from the only point of constant reference in his young life. If you strip those layers of politics away, one by one, you are capable of seeing how horrible it is. When I was 7, I took a walk around my new neighborhood in Havertown, Pennsylvania. Back in 1969, kids could do that and expect to circle back safely to our front steps. When my mother heard what happened, she rolled her eyes and told my father, “We never should have taught her to read.” I tell you this story to make you chuckle, yes, but also to remind you that we were all children once. But my father and my aunt did not have to deal with what the children who were separated from their parents in the last few months of the “zero tolerance policy” have experienced. Imagine, then, the fear of a child who speaks no English and who is taken away from the only point of constant reference in his young life. They spent 18 days in the dark, with no promise of rescue. Those children at the border, those children in the caves, my father and my aunt, and my 7-year-old self shared the same thing: A visceral need, a profound desire, to go home. We are at our best when we remember how that feels.

Attention, politics die-hards: Public affairs channel C-SPAN is floating its bus to Alaska for...

The politics television station C-SPAN is sending its bus on a road trip around Alaska later this month, and residents of Juneau, Fairbanks and Anchorage will have a chance to check out its onboard television studio and take pop quizzes. C-SPAN is holding public events in Juneau on June 18 and 19, in Fairbanks on June 22 and June 23 and in Anchorage on June 25, 26 and 27. The bus is on a tour of all 50 state capitals to promote the 40-year-old station. C-SPAN broadcasts live streams of congressional proceedings and public affairs programs. Its stops in Juneau, Fairbanks and Anchorage are coordinated with GCI, the telecommunications company that broadcasts C-SPAN programs. Each stop will include several public open houses, where Alaskans can climb on board. Among the segments will be one with Mark Adams, an author from the New York City area who just published a book about traveling in Alaska called "Tip of the Iceberg." He'll be interviewed by Libby Casey, a former public radio reporter in Alaska who now works for The Washington Post. The station is also trying to schedule times with Gov. 12-1:45 p.m., Juneau Rotary – Westmark Baranof Hotel, 127 N. Franklin St. (Bus will be parked at 105 S. Seward St., in front of Sealaska Heritage Institute.)
