See, the thing is, you can’t think of Trump as a person, so much as a brand. People don’t really care about Donald J Trump as a person. He is a shallow, egotistical, overly entitled idiot who has coasted his entire life on the Trump name and his fathers money, and his entire grift is based on that. You can see it in all of his older interviews where he wouldn’t even get the time of the day if not for the money his name represented. So he has been tolerated by his “peers” and humored by the rest for his entire life.
Oh, but that name. That name is worth something. It was worth something to all of the people that also got rich off of his name. People like Ivana, Marla, Melania, his kids, his business partners, and people like Cohen.
And of course, let us not forget that Trump didn’t win in a vacuum. I’ve made lots of comments about the direction the GOP has gone in the last 60 years, but let’s go from Clinton forward. You have the GOP and conservative media pushing the same message over and over. A message of fear and xenophobia. Dirty politics, and win at all cost. Our side vs. their side.
