Alex Kozinski, formerly a Circuit Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit, has stepped aside in the face of mounting credible accusations that he has exploited that high position to engage in improper sexual conduct.
One Accuser, and Many:
The one accuser who more than any other has become the name attached to this story is Heidi Bond, who was Kozinski’s law clerk in 2006-07. She told a reporter for the Washington Post that on three occasions the Judge called her into his chambers to show her pornographic materials, and to ask whether she thought they were ‘photoshopped’ and whether they aroused her. In the days after the WaPo first reported on Bond’s story, many others, whose experiences of Kozinski’s harassment meshed with hers, also came forward.
The Thing to Know:
Kozinski issued a statement upon his retirement that seemed to apologize for any harm he had done, but that didn’t actual admit that he had done anything wrong.
