Hurricane Maria devastated the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico as it passed through on September 20. The damage it did came on top of that already inflicted by Hurricane Irma two weeks before.
President Trump’s Tweets
On September 26 the President tweeted that the island’s “old electrical grid, which was in terrible shape, was devastated. Much of the Island was destroyed, with billions of dollars…” then he ran out of characters, so resumed the point with another tweet, “…owed to Wall Street and the banks which, sadly, must be dealt with. Food water and medical are top priorities – and doing well.”
The Punch Line
The President’s opposition believes it is sadly symptomatic of this administration that among the President’s first thoughts in the face of this disaster was the territory’s debt to Wall Street.
